Over past five years as millions have gained health insurance through Obamacare (Affordable Care Act) the number of people having trouble paying their medical bills has plummeted.

According to a new report from the National Center for Health Statistics, 13 million fewer people are struggling to pay their medical bills – a 22 percent drop.

In 2011, 46.3 million in the U.S. were uninsured and in June of this year, that number had dropped to 28.4 million people. The decline in families having trouble paying their medical bills is directly correlated with the remarkable increase in the number of people who have health insurance thanks to Obamacare.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, roughly 20 million people have health insurance because of the Affordable Care Act. That includes about 10 million people who gained coverage through the expansion of Medicaid and another 10 million who buy insurance on the Obamacare exchanges or are young adults covered through their parents’ insurance.
