As of Monday, the deadline for customers who want coverage that will be in place by Jan. 1 2017, 6.4 million people had signed up for health plans in the 39 states where the federal government operates the exchanges. The 6.4 million sign ups includes more than 2 million new customers. The overall total is an increase of 400,000 from a compared to last year, Burwell said.
“We’re going to finish this open enrollment by trying to enroll more people than ever,” Burwell said during a conference call with reporters. “Today’s enrollment numbers confirm that some of the doomsday predictions about the marketplace are not bearing out.”

And health insurance sign up numbers that were announce Wednesday do not include the current customers whose plans will automatically be extended by the end of the year or the enrollments in 11 states and Washington D.D. which run their own healthcare exchanges. The final number― which Burwell said would include millions of additional people ― will be announced in January.
- California announced that Covered California has enrolled nearly 200,000 people as of Dec. 15.
- Washington state’s Washington Healthplanfinder announce that it has enrolled 180,000 as of Wednesday.
- Idaho announced that Your Health Idaho has enrolled almost 100,000 through Dec. 13.
- Washington D.C.’s DC Health Link in the District of Columbia announced Friday that enrollment is 47 percent higher than a year ago, at more than 4,100 through Monday.
- And Rhode Island’s HealthSource RI has signed up 28,000 people as of Saturday
