Donald Trump appeared alongside Don King Wednesday to announce that he helped broker a deal with Sprint to bring 5,000 jobs back to the United States.

The problem? Donald Trump didn’t have anything to do with the decision to bring the jobs to the United States. The jobs were part of a previously announced plan by Soft Bank, the Japanese company that controls Sprint.
Trump, Again, Takes Credit for Jobs He Didn’t Create
Oh, and by the way, this isn’t the first time Donald Trump has tried to take credit for these very same jobs. Trump had previously appeared in the lobby of Trump Tower with the CEO of SoftBank Masayoshi Son to claim that he negotiated a 50,000 job program with the Japanese company. It has been pointed out since that the 50,000 jobs were already planned before Trump won the election and well before he had a conversation with Masayoshi Son.
Politico is reporting that Sprint is saying, “5,000 jobs announced today are part of the 50,000 jobs that [SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son] previously announced. It will be a combination of newly created jobs and bringing some existing jobs back to the U.S.”

The statement from Spint confirms that the jobs that Donald Trump is claiming to have created Wednesday were already part of a previously announced investment deal between Sprint and its largest shareholder, SoftBank.
According to the New York Times, the 50,000 job expansion was planned as part of a $50 billion investment by SoftBank into operations in the United States and the funding was announced in October, before the election.
This all begs the question, why does Donal Trump think he can keep taking credit for jobs he didn’t create? The answer to that is because the media continues to let him get away with lying. They continue to give him free air time to make big announcements despite the fact that he isn’t being truthful.
