Tense exchange when Marco Rubio asks Rex Tillerson if Vladimir Putin is a war criminal
Marco Rubio got very direct with Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of State Rex Tillerson during his Senate confirmation hearing.
Rex Tillerson is, of course, former CEO oil giant ExxonMobil and has a long personal history working with Russia’s Vladimir Putin. Tillerson also fought against U.S. national security interests by lobbying against sanctions for Russia because his company Exxon had multi-billion dollar deals with Russia.
Rubio asked Tillerson directly if Vladamir Putin is a war criminal. And Tillerson refused to denounce Russia’s war crimes under Vladamir Putin.

When asked during hearing if Vladimir Putin is a “war criminal,” Rex Tillerson says, “I would not use that term.” https://t.co/81SJT0GQ4m

Tillerson’s response saying “I would not use that term,” clearly made Marco Rubio unhappy. Rubio then responded, “It should not be hard to say Vladimir Putin’s army has committed war crimes in Aleppo.” Tillerson then claimed ignorance saying “I look forward to being fully informed [when in office].”
This seemed to further agitate Marco Rubio who followed up, “None of this classified. These people are dead!”
