Trump’s Education Secretary nominee failed to report $125k anti-union donation

Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Education failed to disclose a $125,000 donation to an anti-union group in advance of her Tuesday confirmation hearing.

The Washington Post was the first to report the failed disclosure on Friday afternoon.

While there has been growing outcry about the sketchy ethics process of Donald Trump and his cabinet picks and they are responding to this latest mishap with their traditional smugness. “We appreciate this being called to our attention and we will be updating our committee submission,” a transition team spokeswoman said Friday, according to the Washington Post.

Betsy DeVos, Trump’s Education Department pick, made a donation of $125,000 to Protecting Michigan Taxpayers, which was an anti-union group that successfully lobbied against a ballot measure to add collective bargaining rights to the state’s constitution. The omitted disclosure comes amid growing protest from Democrats who say Trump’s transition team has tried to rush the confirmation process and skip over ethics disclosure process.

Betsy DeVos is a major conservative donor and charter school activist who declared $5 million in donations of $200 or more in her disclosure to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions according to the Washington Post.
