Abortion rate at lowest rate since Roe v Wade, thanks to Obamacare
According to a new study, the United States abortion rate is at its lowest rate since abortions became legal in 1973. The researchers estimate that there are 14.6 abortions for every 1,000 women of reproductive age which is down 14% from three years earlier.
Researchers believe that increased access to health care including birth control has led to a substantial increase in the use of IUDs in recent years since they have become more affordable.
Obamacare requires insurance companies cover birth control without charging a copayment
The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, requires that insurance companies cover a wide variety of birth control methods without charging a copayment which has lead to an increase in the use of birth control.
The new study by theGuttmacher Institute is based on the data the institute collected on abortions performed in 2013 and 2014 which shows that the abortion rate fell in 44 states. The largest declines were seen in the West and the South, according to the study. The abortion rate rose in six states: Arkansas, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina and Vermont.
