Democrats: Trump is in violation of his DC hotel lease
House and Senate Democrats sent a letter Monday to General Services Administration Acting Administrator Timothy Horne asking what the agency is doing to address the obvious breach of the contract. According to Democrats, Donald Trump has officially violated the lease agreement he holds with the federal government for his Washington, D.C. hotel.
The General Services Administration manages the Old Post Office building which Donald Trump leased for his Trump International Hotel. Now that Trump has been sworn in and announced that he will not divest ownership interest in the Trump Organization, House and Senate Democrats want answers.
Taxpayer dollars may now be squandered
The Democrats letter said, “Our hope has always been that President Trump would resolve these breach-of-lease and conflict of interest issues prior to being sworn in as President on January 20,” the Democrats said. “Unfortunately, President Trump has refused to address these concerns, and taxpayer dollars may now be squandered as career public servants are forced to take remedial action to cure this breach.”
On Monday, an ethics watchdog group filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump for violating the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause.
