Friends, this is how democracies end.
First, the president who lost the popular vote by almost 3 million votes starts lying about “millions of illegals” voting as his justification for losing the popular vote.
The second step to ending democracy is that the president who lost the popular vote proposes a “major investigation” into his totally false claim that millions of illegal votes were cast.
And step three? Make it harder or impossible for the people who don’t support you to cast their ballot.
Enter, voter ID laws
On Wednesday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer signaled that voter ID laws would be the solution to Donald Trump’s massive lie about election fraud.
“Maybe it is voter ID in states,” he said.
Spicer also said that the investigation would focus on “urban areas” in places like New York and California where voters rejected Trump resoundingly.
Spicer said specifically, “There’s a lot of states that we didn’t compete in where that’s not necessarily the case. You look at California and New York, we didn’t look at those two states in particular.”
Authoritarianism here we come!
Meanwhile, Donald Trump doesn’t see any need for an investigation into Russia’s interference in our election. But don’t worry, the president is working on the pretend issue of “millions of illegals” magically voting.
