WATCH: Fareed Zakaria Calls Trump’s Muslim-Ban ‘Fear Mongering’
Fareed Zakaria, on his CNN show GPS, spent time pointing out the logical pitfalls of Donald Trumps Muslim-ban. Zakaria noted that exactly zero Americans have been killed by citizens of the seven countries on Trump’s Muslim-ban.
Zakaria also noted that the Muslim-majority countries whose citizens have killed Americans such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates were conspicuously left off the list. But that they also happen to be the countries in the middle east that Donald Trump does business in.
Fareed also pointed out that the chances of an American being killed foreigner in an attack on U.S. soil is 1 in 3.6 million per year. And the chances of an American being killed in an attack by a refugee is 1 in 3.64 billion per year.
“So what explains it then? I suppose it is what explains so much of Donald Trump’s political career – the exploitation of fear, Zakaria said. “From the birther campaign to the talk of Mexican rapists – Trump has always trafficked in fear mongering.”
Zakaria noted that Trump is casting himself as the country’s protector but in doing so has chosen to “punish ordinary men, women and children who are fleeing terrorism and violence.
And he closed with, “But something else is being destroyed along with it – the image, reputation and goodwill of the United States as the beacon of the world. As someone noted in the past few days, Donald Trump seems to want to turn off that lamp on the Statue of Liberty.”
