Elderly Woman Dies After Muslim-Ban Blocks Her From Returning For Medical Treatment
The Trump administration has repeatedly claimed that the chaos of people being detained at airports is a small price to pay for safety. Two things about that. First, it’s not true. Second, for some Trump’s small price may, in fact, be the ultimate price.
Multiple news outlets are reporting that an elderly woman who was trying to return to the United States for treatment died while being detained and waiting to get back into the U.S.
According to reports, the woman lived in America since 1995 and was turned away from the U.S. as a result of Donald Trump’s Muslim-ban.
The woman’s son, Mike Hager said his sick mother not allowed to boarding a U.S.-bound flight from Iraq, despite the fact that she showed her green card. Her family had decided that she should return to the U.S. after she fell ill.
One day later, Mr. Hager’s mother died.
Mr. Hager said that Trump has destroyed his family.
According to Fox 2 News of Detroit, “They destroyed us. I went with my family, I came back by myself. They destroyed our family. The immigration [official] told us that the President of the United States put an order right now – you guys cannot go. I was just shocked. I had to put my mom back on the wheelchair and take her back and call the ambulance and she was very, very upset. She knew right there if we send her back to the hospital she’s going to pass away — she’s not going to make it.”
Mr. Hager blames his mother’s death on Donald Trump and said that the new policy makes him feel as though he and his family were not wanted anywhere.
“I really believe this in my heart: if they would have let us in, my mom – she would have made it and she would have been sitting right here next to me,” he said.
“She’s gone because of him. This is our home. We’ve been here for too long, we’ve been here since we were kids. If I’m not wanted overseas in Iraq and I’m not wanted here, then where do I go? What am I supposed to do with my family? You put the terrorists on the side, the bad people, but don’t mix everybody together.”
