Schumer: Trump White House May Be Covering Up Russia Scandal
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday suggested that the Trump White House may be covering improper communications with Russia.
Schumer said, “There is real concern that administration, transition and campaign officials may try to cover up ties to Russia by deleting emails, texts and other records that could shine a light on those connections.”
Schumer went on to say that electronic records that are “likely to be the subject” of congressional investigations “must be preserved.”
Senator Schumer was joined by Senators Dianne Feinstein and Mark Warner who are the ranking Democrats on the Judiciary and Intelligence committees respectively.
The Democrats demanded that all records of contact between Trump’s campaign, transition and administration officials be preserved for investigation.
“I’ve been in Congress for a long time, I’ve never seen anything like this,” Schumer said.
Schumer continued by demanding that Attorney General Jeff Sessions recuse himself from any investigation. And if Sessions does not recuse himself the “investigation will remain jaundiced and the American people will doubt the credibility of its findings,” Schumer said.
