Former Speaker John Boehner: Obamacare Repeal ‘Not Going To Happen’
Politico reports that former House Speaker John Boehner predicted on Thursday that a full repeal and replace of Obamacare is “not going to happen.”
“[Congressional Republicans are] going to fix Obamacare – I shouldn’t call it repeal-and-replace, because it’s not going to happen,” he said.
Boehner, who was speaking at a Orlando health care conference, thinks a quick repeal and replace is just “happy talk” and most likely there will only be modest changes to President Obama’s legacy legislation.
“Most of the framework of the Affordable Care Act … that’s going to be there,” Boehner concluded.
He added that the talk in November about lightning-fast passage of a new health care framework was wildly optimistic.
“I started laughing,” he said. “Republicans never ever agree on health care.”
Boehner’s comments come as Republican lawmakers across the country are dealing with angry constituents who fear their healthcare will be taken away without a replacement. Trump has also recently said that he will release a plan by early to mid-March on how he plans to move forward on a repeal-and-replace plan.
