Report: Failed Yemen Raid Did Not Yield Any Significant Intelligence

A new report by NBC News notes that the failed raid in Yemen that was approved by Donald Trump has not turned up any meaningful intelligence. The report contradicts claims from the White House that has said the raid yielded intelligence.

Senior U.S. officials told NBC News that they were unaware of any valuable information from the botched operation that resulted in the death of Navy SEAL Ryan Owens and at least 25 civilians.

The NBC report went on to say, “A senior Congressional official briefed on the matter said the Trump administration has yet to explain what prompted the rare use of American ground troops in Yemen, but he said he was not aware of any new threat from al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the al Qaeda affiliate that was targeted.”

White House press secretary said again Monday that the operation was a success. However, “Multiple senior officials told NBC News they have not seen evidence to support that claim.”

This weekend, the Miami Herald ran a story featuring the father of Ryan Owens father who is demanding an investigation into the botched raid. Bill Owens also refused to meet with Trump saying, “I’m sorry, I don’t want to see him.’’

“I told them I don’t want to meet the President.”

“I told them I didn’t want to make a scene about it, but my conscience wouldn’t let me talk to him,” Owen told the Miami Herald.

In addition to the death of Ryan Owens, six other other members of his unit sustained injuries. And the raid also resulted in the loss of a $70 million aircraft.
