Bernie Sanders Introduces Bill To Allow Prescription Purchases From Canada, Lower Prices
Senator Bernie Sanders and a group of Democratic lawmakers on Tuesday introduced a bill that would allow for the purchase of prescription drugs from Canada.
Sanders bill is an attempt to help lower the high cost of prescription drugs that Americans pay, it would also be a shot across the bow for Trump and the Republicans who have stumbled for weeks to articulate how they plan to address Obamacare.
The bill would allow for the import of prescription drugs from Canadian pharmacies so long as they meet safety standards.
According to the Democratic lawmakers, Trump should be ready to support it because he campaigned on the promise to bring down drug prices.
Congressman Elijah Cummings said of the bill, “We’re attacking this problem by focusing on ideas that even President Trump says he supports.,”
“The president’s support for these ideas have been so clear that I’m tempted to introduce a bill in the House named ‘The Donald Trump Drug Affordability Act.’ I’m sure he would like that,” Cummings said.
The bill has 19 Senate co-sponsors, all Democrats.
The pharmaceutical industry is expected to oppose the bill aggressively. But Sanders said about the industry opposition, “Do we expect the pharmaceutical industry will spend an enormous sum of money to oppose this? Of course we do.”
“This is the time. The American people are sick and tired of getting ripped off, and we’re going to win this thing.”
