10 Senior Officials Confirm No Significant Intel From Yemen Raid
NBC News reported Wednesday that multiple senior Pentagon officials have confirmed to them that the botched raid in Yemen led to no valuable intelligence. One Navy SEAL, Ryan Owens, was killed during the raid.
According to NBC News, “The Pentagon says Navy SEALs scooped up laptops, hard drives and cell phones in last month’s Yemen raid, but multiple U.S. officials told NBC News that none of the intelligence gleaned from the operation so far has proven actionable or vital — contrary to what President Trump said in his speech to Congress Tuesday.”
Questions have swirled about the failed raid while the Trump administration has continued to assert that it was a successful operation despite the death of a Navy SEAL, the loss of 25 civilian lives, the loss of a $70 million aircraft and what seems to be a total lack of intel generated from the raid.
During his speech to Congress, Donald Trump said, “I just spoke to Defense Secretary James Mattis, who reconfirmed that, and I quote, ‘Ryan was a part of a highly successful raid that generated large amounts of vital intelligence that will lead to many more victories in the future against our enemies.’”
However, 10 senior officials that have been briefed on the raid told NBC News that the mission yielded no valuable intel.
Senator John McCain said about the raid, “When you lose a $75 million airplane and, more importantly, an American life is lost and wounded, I don’t believe you can call it a success.”
