Seth Meyers Mocks Media’s Obsession of Trump’s Tone in Congress Speech
Dear media, “Let’s not get fooled again. We’ve been here with Trump before,” Seth Meyers warned in his Closer Look segment.
Meyers takes a deep dive into the media’s obsession with Trump’s “tone” during the Joint Address to Congress – explaining how the media “salivated over the possibility of a more presidential Trump.”
The late night host broke it down – Trump “spent the last year and a half lowering the bar when it comes to public speaking,” the fact that he “managed to sustain a muted tone that for any other politician would be considered unremarkable … was itself seen as a huge victory last night.”
Meyers agrees he had a calmer tone, but still offered the “same empty promises.”
Meyer’s warning mirrors comedian Bill Maher’s – who shared the same concern on MSNBC.
