Poll: 2/3 Of Americans Want Special Prosecutor For Russia Investigation

An overwhelming majority of Americans want a special prosecutor to investigate the ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

According to a CNN/ORC poll, that 65 percent of Americans think a special prosecutor should handle the investigation and 32 percent think Congress can handle it.

When broken down by party, 82 percent of Democrats think a special prosecutor should handle the case, while only 43 percent of Republicans think a special prosecutor should head up the case.

55 percent of Americans say they are at least somewhat concerned by the reports that Trump campaign associates had contacts with Russia during the campaign.

However the poll also found that only 34% of Americans consider Russia to be a serious threat. Though it is notable that that is up from 21% in May 2016.

The poll also found that Trump’s approval ratings did not increase following his address to congress. Trump’s well-received address to Congress last week hasn’t provided a boost to the president’s numbers.

Also notable, the poll found that “approval toward Congress has also climbed, up to 28% from 20% in January, reaching its highest level since 2009.”

The poll was in the field from March 1 to 4 and surveyed 1,025 adults. The margin of error is 3 percent.
