Three States Suing To Block Trump’s New Muslim-Ban
Democratic attorneys general for three states have announced that they will be asking the court for a temporary block on Donald Trump’s new Muslim-ban which was signed this week.
In February, District Court Judge James Robart blocked Donald Trump’s first Muslim-ban and Robart’s ruling was upheld by the Ninth Circut Court of Appeals. Trump later withdrew the first Muslim-ban and issued a new ban attempting to craft the order to fare better in the courts.
On Thursday, Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced that his office will file a motion asking Robart to reaffirm that the earlier order applies to the new version of the Muslim-ban.
“We’ve won in court, and the president has had to honor those defeats,” Ferguson said at a press conference in Seattle. “It’s my expectation that we will continue to prevail, and certainly my expectation that the president will continue to respect the decision of the court.”
Ferguson argues that the new order still amounts to a ban on Muslims.
Attorneys general for the states of New York and Hawaii have also announce they will be suing to block the Trump Muslim-ban.
“President Trump’s latest executive order is a Muslim ban by another name, imposing policies and protocols that once again violate the Equal Protection Clause and Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution,” New York Attorney General Schneiderman said in a statement.
