Trump Campaign Aide, Roger Stone Was In Contact With Russian Hackers: Report
Longtime Donald Trump friend and campaign consultant,Roger Stone, communicated with the the Russian hacking group that has been identified by United States intelligence officials as the guilty party behind the hacking of emails during the 2016 election.
Mr. Stone, who is currently under FBI investigation for his connections to Russia, used private Twitter messages with the hacker known as Guccifer 2.0 during the 2016 presidential campaign, according The Smoking Gun.
“Though “Guccifer 2.0” maintained that he was a lone “hacktivist” committed to “fight all those illuminati,” a U.S. intelligence assessment concluded with “high confidence” that the G.R.U., Russia’s military intelligence service, was operating the “Guccifer 2.0” persona, which communicated through Twitter, a WordPress blog, and a series of burner e-mail accounts,” The Smoking Gun reported.
The Smoking Gun asked Roger Stone whether he had exchanged private messages with Guccifer 2.0, to which he replied: “don’t recall.”
“As part of the probe being run out of the bureau’s office in San Francisco, agents have obtained detailed records for the “Guccifer 2.0” Twitter and WordPress accounts, according to two sources,” Smoking Gun reported.
The FBI and other counterintelligence agencies have an open investigation into the Trump campaign members, including Roger Stone, with Russian officials during the 2016 campaign.
This aspect of the investigation is being run out of the FBI’s San Francisco office and two sources told the Smoking Gun that the FBI has obtained detailed communications records of Twitter and WordPress for Guccifer 2.0 and Stone.
