Trump Fails To Make Deal With Conservative Wing Of Republican Party On Health Bill
Donald Trump failed to make a last minute deal with the so-called “freedom” caucus, the most conservative members of the Republican party, on the health bill set for a vote Thursday. Trump’s failure to make a deal puts at risk the Republican plan for repealing Obamacare.
Lawmakers leaving the White House after meeting with Trump said that they had not made a deal that would allow them to support the deal.
Multiple whip counts from various news outlets show that Republicans are short of the needed 215 votes to pass the bill out of the house.
Chief Deputy Whip Patrick McHenry told reporters that the caucus has been presented a “final offer.”
And Congressman Justin Amash, one of the Freedom Caucus’ chief opponents of the bill, told reporters that the offer wasn’t anything new. Amash added that the vote will fail should the House move forward to vote on the bill tonight.
