Donald Trump Tries To Blame Democrats For His Failure
Donald Trump on Friday suffered the biggest loss of his presidency when Republicans were forced to cancel a vote on their much maligned Obamacare repeal bill. Democrats and centrist Republicans were against the bill because it would cause 24 million people to lose their health insurance and make health insurance less affordable for low-income and older Americans. And ultra-conservative Republicans ultimately rejected the bill because it didn’t go far enough to take health insurance away from enough people.
Trump of course didn’t take reponsibility for the loss, instead he tried to blame Democrats. “We had no Democrat support; we had no votes from the Democrats,” he said during a press availability following the decision to pull the effort. “They weren’t going to give us a single vote so it’s a very difficult thing to do.”
However, Trump and Republicans made no effort to bring Democrats into the process of bipartisan compromise.
Trump’s statement is also silly for the simple reason that of course Democrats didn’t vote to repeal the signature achievement of Barack Obama which has delivered health insurances to over 20 million people.
This failure belongs to Donald Trump and no one else. We are all just lucky that Donald Trump’s inability to close the deal means more Americans will get to keep their health insurance.
