Republicans Forced Pull Obamacare Repeal In What Is An Epic Failure For Trump Admin
Seven years after Obamacare became law of the land, Republicans were forced to admit defeat in their quest to repeal the Affordable Care Act. After days of reports that Republicans lacked the votes to even pass the bill out of the House where they have a large majority, Donald Trump and Paul Ryan were forced to pull the bill from the House floor.
We reported earlier that Ryan ran over to the White House to tell Trump they didn’t have enough votes. Two senior administration officials said the decision to pull the bill was Ryan’s and Trump agreed.
And during his press conference after the failure, Ryan acknowledged that Obamacare would remain the law of the land for the foreseeable future.
“We came up short,” Ryan told reporters. “We are going to be living with Obamacare for the foreseeable future.”
The failure of Trump’s signature legislative priority has led many to question his self-declared title of deal maker.
Senate Democratic leader said of the Trump’s epic failure, “In my life, I have never seen an administration as incompetent as the one occupying the White House today.”
“Today we’ve learned they can’t count votes and they can’t close a deal. So much for the art of the deal.”
In the end, moderate Republicans along with Democrats rejected the Trump plan because it would rip health insurance away from 24 million people.
But Trump also faced a defection from the most conservative members of the Republican party presumably because the bill did not go far enough to take health care away from Americans.
