Bernie Sanders Announces Medicare-For-All Push
Just one day after the Donald Trump and Republicans epically failed in their effort to repeal Obamacre, Bernie Sanders announced he will push for a Medicare-for-all system.
Sanders was speaking at a town hall in Hardwick, Vermont on Saturday when he announced that he will soon introduce a Medicare-for-all bill in the Senate.
“It wasn’t just we defeated them,” Sanders at the town hall. “It was how we defeated them,” Sanders said referencing the rallies, town halls and phone calls that overwhelmed the Republican effort to repeal Obamacare.
“No, we’re not going to give $300 million in tax breaks to the top 2 percent and then throw 24 million Americans off of health insurance. Ain’t gonna happen,” Sanders said.
According to Vermont Public Radio, “The announcement drew thunderous applause from the approximately 1,000 people in the Hazen Union High School gymnasium, where Sanders shared a stage with Sen. Patrick Leahy and Rep. Peter Welch.”
“It is a common sense proposal, and I think once the American people understand it, we can go forward with it,” Sanders said.
Senator Sanders also made the promise on MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes on Friday night, “We have got to have the guts to take on the insurance companies and the drug companies and move forward toward a Medicare-for-all, single-payer program. And I’ll be introducing legislation shortly to do that.”
