Flynn Discussed Kidnapping Of Dissident With Turkish Ministers During Campaign: Report
Donald Trump’s disgraced former national security adviser Michael Flynn discussed kidnapping a Muslim cleric from the United States in a September meeting with Turkish government ministers, according to former CIA Director James Woolsey who was invited to the meeting.
Woolsey told the The Wall Street Journal on Friday about the meeting saying, “You don’t send out folks to haul somebody overseas.” The former CIA director also said of Flynn’s kidnapping planning that it was “a covert step in the dead of night to whisk this guy away.”
Earlier this month, Michael Flynn filed paperwork with the Justice Department admitting that at the same time he was advising Donald Trump’s campaign he was receiving payments as a foreign agent for the country of Turkey. Flynn’s firm was paid over $500,000 for his work lobbying on behalf of Turkey.
On Election Day in 2016, as part of his work for the governement of Turkey, Flynn authored an op-ed in the Hill where he lambasted the same Turkish cleric he allegedly had dissussed kidnapping.
The Trump administration has said they were not aware of Flynn’s work on behalf of Turkey, however it was later revealed that the Trump transition which was lead by Mike Pence was informed of Flynn’s need to register as a foreign agent.
Flynn was fired from the national security position when it was revealed that he lied about his communications with the Russian ambassador and discussed the easing of sanctions that Russia would face when Trump was president.
