Democrats Delay Committee Vote On Trump Supreme Court Pick

Senate Democrats were able to delay a committee vote on Donald Trump’s Supreme Neil Gorsuch for one week.

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the committee, said Democrats had requested that the committee’s vote on Gorsuch be pushed to next week.

“I understand that the minority would like to hold him over,” Grassley said during a Judiciary Committee’s meeting on Monday. Under the rules of the committee any member can request that a nomination be held the first time it appears on the agenda.

The delay by Democrats will mean that the committee will vote on April 3, giving Republicans only a few days to achieve their goal of getting Gorsuch confirmed by the full Senate that week, before they break for recess.

Democrats led by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are insisting on a 60-vote threshold for Neil Gorsuch to be approved.

It is still not clear whether Republicans will have the votes to clear a filibuster.
