CIA Had Evidence Of Russia Helping Trump Earlier Than Originally Thought: Report
The CIA briefed top Congressional officials that Trump associates may have been working with Russia in August.
CIA Director John Brennan was so worried about Russian meddling and possible collusion between Trump campaign associates that he carried out individual briefings with the “gang of eight” during the Congressional summer recess in August.
According to the New York Times, “in late August — 10 weeks before the election — John O. Brennan, then the C.I.A. director, was so concerned about increasing evidence of Russia’s election meddling that he began a series of urgent, individual briefings for eight top members of Congress, some of them on secure phone lines while they were on their summer break.”
The Times report also noted that CIA officials also “began seeing signs of possible connections to the Trump campaign.”
The FBI and both the House and Senate Intelligence Committees are investigating whether Trump campaign officials colluded with the Russians.
According to the New York Times report, “The officials said Mr. Brennan also indicated that unnamed advisers to Mr. Trump might be working with the Russians to interfere in the election.”
