Trump Has Spent 28 Percent Of His Presidency At Mar-a-Lago: Report
Not only are Donald Trump’s weekends away costing taxpayers dearly, but Trump is actually profiting from every trip to Mar-a-Lago.
Donald Trump is lazy, undisciplined and loves taking time off. Nothing proves this point more than the fact that Trump has spent nearly one-third of his presidency on vacation at his Flordia resort.
According to an NBC News report, as of Sunday, April 16, Trump will have spent 28 percent of his time since inauguration at or traveling to Mar-a-Lago. Trump has spent 7 out of 13 weekends since becoming president at his members-only resort. It’s also worth pointing out that this only accounts for Trump’s trips to Mar-a-Lago and on the weekends that he hasn’t gone to Florida. Trump has still gone golfing at Trump-owned properties closer to the White House.
In addition to highlighting what a lazy person he is, Trump’s decision to spend insane amounts of time at his Florida resort are also raising major ethics concerns, NBC News points out.
Not only is Donald Trump driving millions of dollars worth of free advertising for his Mar-a-Lago business but Trump is also actually making a profit off all these vacations because taxpayers are forced to pay the Trump property for all the food, room rentals and even golf carts it takes to bring the White House operation down to Florida. A recent report by CBS News found that the Secret Service has paid Trump $35,185 just for golf cart rentals.
This is not like when past presidents went to Camp David for the weekend. Frankly, it’s not even like when George W. Bush would travel to his ranch in Crawford, Texas. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property is a private business, not just a vacation home. Members pay $200,000 for the privilege of watching President Trump eat dinner and chocolate cake.
Not only does Donald Trump’s insistence on going to Florida make the Secret Service’s job a logistical nightmare, but literally the Secret Service has to pay Trump for room rentals and the golf carts needed to keep him safe while he takes time off from the nation’s business every weekend.
And Trump’s weekends away are not just causing the Federal Treasury dearly, “Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw told NBC that each day President Trump spends in Mar-a-Lago costs his department $60,000.”
