Fox News Preparing To Sever Ties With Bill O’Reilly: Reports
Looking more and more like Bill O’Reilly is about to get fired.
Fox News is preparing to sever its ties with Bill O’Reilly, according to a new report. The Wall Street Journal reported late Tuesday that the final decision on O’Reilly could come in the next few days.
The Wall Street Journal report opened with “Fox News is preparing to cut ties with its biggest star, Bill O’Reilly, according to people close to the situation.”
Wall Street Journal’s report, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, follows a CNN report that said O’Reilly and Fox News have already begun discussing his exit from the network. “A well-placed source said Tuesday afternoon that representatives for Fox and O’Reilly have begun talking about an exit. But this prompted a denial from sources in O’Reilly’s camp,” CNN reported.
CNN reports also reported that the announcement about Bill O’Reilly “was likely by the end of the week.”
“Mr. O’Reilly hasn’t been on the air since April 11, when he ended his show by announcing plans for a vacation. While Mr. O’Reilly had planned to take this week off, the early start to his vacation wasn’t part of the original plan, people familiar with the matter said. The plan was for him to return to his show next Monday,” according to the Wall Street Journal.
According to the CNN report, “conversations inside Fox have already turned to possible O’Reilly successors.”
The news of O’Reilly’s likely departure from Fox News follows an article by The New York Times this month that Fox News and O’Reilly had secretly paid $13 million to five women to settle sexual harassment cases.
