Turns Out Guy Who Set Up Russian Backchannel Was Advising Trump: Report
Erik Prince advised Donald Trump on foreign affairs and was quietly snuck into Trump Tower to avoid media.
Turns out that the controversial founder of Blackwater, Erik Prince, had a substantial role in advising Donald Trump and his team, according to a new report.
Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that Prince, who set up a secret backchannel meeting for Trump and Putin, was quietly being snuck into Trump Tower through the back in order to avoid the media.
“According to people familiar with his activities, Prince entered Trump Tower through the back, like others who wanted to avoid the media spotlight, and huddled with members of the president-elect’s team to discuss intelligence and security issues,” Bloomberg noted.
The reason this is important is because the Washington Post previously reported that Prince set up a secret backchannel meeting with a top aide to Vladimir Putin in the Seychelles in January. The secret meeting was held on the remote Seychelles islands in the Indian Ocean on January 11 just 9 days before the Trump inauguration.
After that meeting was reported by the Washington Post, the Trump administration tried to distance itself from Prince suggesting he was not an adviser to Trump. The Bloomberg report directly contradicts that.
Bloomberg reported that “over a two to three month period around the election, Prince met several times with top aides as the incoming government took shape, offering ideas on how to fight terror and restructure the country’s major intelligence agencies, according to information provided by five people familiar with the meetings.”
And in a not so shocking turn of events, one of the people that Prince was meeting with regularly in the Trump team was Michael Flynn.
Erik Prince’s sister is Betsy DeVos who is Trump’s controversial Education Secretary. And Prince was also a large financial backer of Donald Trump’s campaign, donating at least $100,000 to a Trump Super PAC.
