Russia Infiltrated Trump’s Campaign Through Advisers: Report
A new report indicates that Russia used Trump campaign advisers to infiltrate Donald Trump’s campaign.
As part of its effort to interfere with the 2016 election, Russia infiltrated Donald Trump’s campaign through his advertising sees including Carter Page.
According to a bombshell report, U.S. officials told CNN that the Russian government attempted to use advisers, including Carter Page, in their strategy to infiltrate Trump’s political team during the campaign season.
“The new information adds to the emerging picture of how the Russians tried to influence the 2016 election, not only through email hacks and propaganda but also by trying to infiltrate the Trump orbit. The intelligence led to an investigation into the coordination of Trump’s campaign associates and the Russians,” the CNN report noted.
Page is one of multiple Trump campaign advisers that US intelligence authorities found to be in contact with Russian intelligence agents during the campaign.
In the middle of the campaign, Carter Page received permission from the Trump campaign to travel to Russia. That trip to Russia was part of what tipped off the FBI that Trump associates may have been working with Russia.
“Shortly after Page returned to the US, he and other Trump advisers headed to Cleveland for the Republican National Convention. On the sidelines of a convention-related event, Page and other Trump advisers, including JD Gordon and Jeff Sessions, met with Russian ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak,” CNN noted.
