A Prominent Republican Just Announce He’s Voting No On Trumpcare

Prominent Republican congressman says he cannot support the revised GOP health care bill.

In what may be the final nail in the coffin for Trumpcare 3.0, prominent former Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Fred Upton told Republican leadership that he cannot support the new Obamacare repeal bill.

Upton broke the news in an interview with Michigan’s WHTC that the deal which brought the conservative “Freedom Caucus” on board went against his principals.

The revised bill that Upton is referring to is would allow states to waive the Obamacare protections for people with pre-existing conditions which would allow insurance companies to charge sick people more.

“I’m not at all comfortable with removing that protection. I’ve supported the practice of not allowing pre-existing illnesses from being discriminated against from the very get-go,” Upton said in the interview. “This amendment torpedoes that. And I told leadership I cannot support this bill with this provision in it. … “It’s not going to get my yes vote the way it is.”

Upton’s announcement means at least 22 Republicans have announced they will vote no on the Republican bill. If one more Republican announces a no vote the bill won’t pass the House.
