Schumer Blasts GOP Health Bill Says Like Giving Cough Medicine To Cancer Patient
Schumer doesn’t hold back on Republicans over Obamacare repeal.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer didn’t mince words on Wednesday when he compared the Republican health care bill to giving cough medicine to a cancer patient.
Schumer was talking about a new amendment to the Obamacare repeal plan that would provide $8 billion over five years for high-risk pools, however, states could still remove protections for pre-existing conditions.
“This Republican amendment leaves Americans with pre-existing conditions as vulnerable as they were before under this bill. High-risk pools are the real death panels: they mean waiting forever in line for unaffordable health insurance,” Schumer said in a statement.
He also added that the amendment “is like administering cough medicine to someone with stage 4 cancer.”
A report by the Center for American Progress found that high-risk pools are underfunded by nearly $200 billion over 10 years under the House replacement proposal.
