Jeff Sessions Was Told To Find Reasons To Fire Comey: Reports
According to multiple media reports, Donald Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey Tuesday was actually in the works for at least a week.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions was asked to come up with reasons to fire the FBI Director. And senior officials at the White House and Justice Department were working on building a case to fire Comey since that time, according to The New York Times.
CNN also reported the discussions surrounding the firing of Comey were limited to just the highest levels of the Trump administration.
The firing of the FBI Director came just weeks after Comey confirmed that the FBI is investigating whether Trump associates colluded with Russia in the 2016 election.
The Trump administration has tried to suggest that the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General had pushed for Comey’s firing but the reporting from the New York Times confirms that it was the White House that insisted in making the case to fire the FBI Director.
