Another Republican Senator Calls For Independent Investigation
Calls for an independent investigation heat up following the bombshell report that Trump told Comey to drop the FBI’s investigation of Flynn.
Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski announced on Wednesday that she supports an independent investigation into the Trump Russia saga.
In a post on her Twitter account, Murkowski said, “Like many Alaskans, I’m concerned about the continuous and often conflicting reports about President Trump, the FBI and Russia.”

Murkowski said in a statement, “Like many Alaskans, I’m concerned about the continuous and often conflicting reports about President Trump, the FBI and Russia. The American people deserve to know the truth. I still maintain that the Senate Intelligence Committee should continue conducting a thorough and fair investigation. At the same time, it’s imperative that we – Congress, the FBI, the Administration – work to restore the public’s trust. In order to gain that credibility, it may be that we need to look to an independent commission or special prosecutor.”
Senator Murkowski is one of very few Republicans who have called for an independent investigation. Senator John McCain has also said he wants an independent investigation.
