Trump Campaign Had At Least 18 Undisclosed Contacts with Russia
A new report confirms Trump campaign had extensive contacts with Russia.
The Trump campaigns contacts with Russia was far more extensive than previously disclosed, according to a new report.
Reuters reported Thursday that “Michael Flynn and other advisers to Donald Trump’s campaign were in contact with Russian officials and others with Kremlin ties in at least 18 calls and emails during the last seven months of the 2016 presidential race.”
The news of extensive contacts between Trump team and Russia is just the latest in a slew of news that has come to light in the last few weeks that make the possibility of collusion far more likely.
Despite the firing of James Comey, there are reports that the FBI’s investigation into the Trump teams collusion with Russia has ramped up substantially over the last several weeks.
On Wednesday, the deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein announced the appointment of a special counsel in the Trump-Russia investigation. Former FBI Director Rober Mueller has been named to lead the investigation.
Trump team set up a backchannel with Putin to bypass U.S. government
According to Reuters, “The previously undisclosed interactions form part of the record now being reviewed by FBI and congressional investigators probing Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election and contacts between Trump’s campaign and Russia.”
Michael Flynn and Russian ambassador Kisliak ramped up their discussions after the election essentially “establishing a back channel for communication between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin that could bypass the U.S. national security bureaucracy, which both sides considered hostile to improved relations.”
The Trump White House has regularly denied any contacts between the campaign and Russia including Michael Flynn.
