Cummings Demands Chaffetz Request White House Documents On Comey, Russia
Cummings steps up pressure on Chaffetz, White House over Russia documents.
Democrat and ranking member of the House Oversight Committee Elijah Cummings on Friday demanded that his colleague Jason Chaffetz, the chair of the committee, to issue a request for any White House documents that reveal what Donald Trump told Russian officials about the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, including that it eased “great pressure.”
Cummings made his statement in response to a report that was published by The New York Times on Friday detailing the Oval Office meeting between Trump and the Russian ambassador and foreign minister.
According to the bombshell report, Trump called Comey a “nut job” to two Russian officials he met with and told them he faced great pressure because of Russia which was eased with the firing of Comey.
Trump also shared highly classified information with the Russians during the same meeting, jeoparding an Israeli source that infiltrated ISIS in Syria.
Cummings who called the report “astonishing’ said, “Chairman Chaffetz should request these White House documents today and have his subpoena pen ready — just as he did earlier this week with the memos written by Director Comey.”
