Republicans Are Planning Massive Assault On Programs For The Poor
While Trump distracts country with treason, Republicans ready assault on the poor.
Lost in the chaos of the Trump-Russia scandal is a story that has the potential to impact millions of America’s most vulnerable. House Republicans are considering major cuts to food stamp, welfare and veteran’s benefits programs.
First Republicans in the House voted to take health care away from millions of low and middle-income Americans with their disastrous Obamacare repeal bill. Now they have their eyes on more programs that help the poor.
According to the Politico, “Republicans are considering slashing more than $400 billion in spending through a process to evade Democratic filibusters in the Senate.”
The programs most at risk of deep cuts “are food stamps, welfare, income assistance for the disabled and perhaps even veterans benefits.”
And while safety net programs get the ax, Republicans are planning to lower taxes dramatically for the wealthy.
Politico goes on to note that in addition to the dramatic cuts to programs for the poor, Paul Ryan is set to introduce his Medicare privatization plan in the 2018 budget.
