Trump Planning To Gut EPA Budget By 30 Percent
Donald Trump is planning a massive cut to the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget that would effectively cripple the department’s ability to maintain programs that protect the environment.
The anticipated budget cut of 35 percent, first reported by CNN, comes at the same time that Republicans are attempting to massively cut taxes for the wealthy.
According to CNN, “Some of the biggest cuts would go to categorical grants for science and technology and environmental program and management spending, which would face 40% and 35% decreases, respectively. Some of the hardest-hit programs would include clean air efforts in the environmental program and management category, which would be cut nearly in half.”
The massive cut would end funding to states for environmental clean-up efforts pollution control programs including radon, lead, underground storage tanks, beach protection and pollution protection.
Trump has regularly blasted the important work of the Environmental Protection Agency claiming that they get in the way of business development. However, this is simply a continuation of Trump’s pattern of selling out workplace and environmental protections in exchange for false promises of jobs from wealthy corporations.
Trump is allowing these corporations to take job creation hostage and demanding an unraveling of important regulations that protect workers and the environment.
The 35 percent cut has been outlined in Trump’s blueprint budget for 2018.
Trump’s EPA administrator is a known climate change denier, Scott Pruit, who spent years suing the EPA attempting to block implementation of important environmental regulations.
