Flynn Takes The Fifth, Refuses To Comply With Senate Subpoena
Donald Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn will invoke his Fifth Amendment rights and not comply with a Senate Intelligence Committee subpoena, according to a report by the Associated Press.
The Senate Intel Committee had subpoenaed Flynn as part of their investigation into Russian meddling and collusion between Donald Trump’s campaign and Russian officials.
Through his lawyer, Flynn had previously offered to testify before Congress in exchange for immunity. Senate and House officials have said that they have no intention of giving Flynn immunity.
Flynn had regular communications with the Russian ambassador during and after the campaign, including on the same day that President Obama was announcing new sanction on Russia for their interference in the U.S. election. It is reported that Flynn told the Russian ambassador that the incoming Trump administration would be more friendly toward Russia.
Flynn also acted as a paid foreign agent for Turkey and was paid almost $600,000 for his work. During the transition, Flynn stepped in to stop a U.S. attack on ISIS because his client Turkey opposed the move.
In addition to being paid by Turkey, Flynn received multiple payments from Russia including the state-run media network, RT.
