Democrats Are Planning A Recess Offensive To Protect Obamacare
House Democrats are waging war on Republicans for voting for the latest repeal of Obamacare – and now they have the latest Congressional Budget Office report in their arsenal.
The CBO report estimated that 23 million more Americans would become uninsured by 2026 under Trumpcare.
So, as Congress heads into a pointless one-week recess, a recess packet was sent to House Democrats to encourage them to hold events highlighting the “terrible consequences” of the Obamacare repeal.
“There’s a lot of energy here around the CBO score because it really is, I think, as bad as anyone thought in terms of hitting people with pre-existing conditions, hitting people who have employer-based coverage, 23 million uninsured,” said Igor Volsky, deputy director of the left-leaning Center for American Progress Action Fund.
The healthcare bill is in the Senate – and Senators have been clear they are rewriting the bill. However, Democrats are turning up the pressure on Republicans to make sure millions of Americans won’t lose their health insurance.
However, during this recess, most Republicans won’t hold town halls to discuss the healthcare bill. Only about seven House Republicans had announced town halls for next week as of Friday, according to townhallproject.com. Two GOP senators, Bill Cassidy and Chuck Grassley, also have events next week.
Democratic lawmakers are expected to hold town halls in Republican districts, an effort from progressive groups called “adopt-a-district.” Protect Our Care is organizing empty-chair town halls in states like Nevada, Maine, Ohio and Kansas. Planned Parenthood is also expected to hold events in cities across the country.
