Trump Hotel Received $270k From Saudi Lobbying Organization
New Report Just Revealed Major Emoluments Violations By Trump Hotel.
According to a new report, Donald Trump has personally profited from a foreign government’s lobbying effort.
The Wall Street Journal reported, “Trump’s Washington hotel received roughly $270,000 in payments linked to Saudi Arabia as part of a lobbying campaign by the Gulf kingdom against a controversial piece of terrorism legislation last year.”
Trump has faced intense questions about Emoluments Clause after announcing that he would not put his business interests in a blind trust.
The Saudi payments to Trump’s hotel are for catering, lodging and parking. The details were reported in paperwork filed with the Justice Department.
As the Wall Street Journal notes, the payments to Trump are “part of a lobbying effort against the bipartisan Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, or JASTA, Saudi Arabia’s Washington lobbyists.”
The lobbyists spent $190,000 on lodging, $78,000 on catering and $1,600 on parking at the Trump International Hotel, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Donald Trump’s first foreign trip as president was to Saudi Arabia last month.
The payments to the Trump Hotel were made by an American consultant and reimbursed by the Saudi government.
Ethics watchdogs have raised questions about foreign money pouring into Trump businesses being violations of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause.
