New York Attorney General Investigating Eric Trump Foundation
The New York attorney general is looking into the Eric Trump Foundation after a bombshell report that the charity likely violated New York state laws.
A new Forbes report quotes the New York attorney general’s office saying, “The attorney general’s office is looking into the issues raised by this report.”
The New York attorney general is likely looking into whether the Trump’s engaged in self-dealing.
Essentially, Donald Trump was upset that his son’s charity wasn’t paying to use his golf course to raise money for children with cancer. So Donald Trump donated $100,000 from his foundation to his son’s foundation. Then his son Eric Trump used that money to pay Donald Trump for use of his golf course for a charity golf tournament.
In addition to the issue of self-dealing, Eric Trump, over the course of several years, told donors that all their money went straight to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, because he would be able to use his father’s golf courses for free.
However, as Forbes reported, when Donald Trump found out the charity wasn’t paying for use of the facilities he became upset and demanded the charity to pay up.
According to the Forbes report, Eric Trump’s charity paid the Trump Organization over $1 million for use of golf courses.
The New York Attorney General’s office has been investigating the Donald J. Trump Foundation for months.
