Trump Losing Support In Military Communities
Military communities were a key area of support for Donald Trump in 2016 and have long been part of the Republican Party’s coalition. However, according to a new polling analysis of Gallup data by NBC News, military communities are increasingly souring on Trump.
Trump’s military support has dropped sharply in the last month from 51 percent approval during first 100 days in office to just 43 percent approval for the month of May.
At the same time, Donald Trump’s disapproval from military communities during his first 100 days was 41 percent but shot up in the month of May to 52 percent disapproval.
The drop in support represents a massive 16 point swing in support from military communities from a net positive of 7 points during the first 100 days to a net negative of 9 points in May.
Trump won military communities by 17 points in the election.
Notably, Trump is also losing support in wealth conservative suburbs that have traditionally been Republican strongholds. Trump’s lost 12 points of support in the conservative suburbs.
The loss of support in key Republican communities will likely have important implications for the 2018 midterm election and whether Democrats will be able to win the house back.
