Trump EPA Wants To Halt Obama Methane Rule
The Trump Administration Just Took A Shot At An Obama-era climate change policy.
The Trump administration is taking steps to halt an Obama-era climate change regulation regarding methane.
The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed pausing the oil and gas pollution rule for two years while it reconsiders the regulation.
On Tuesday, EPA officials made the formal proposal for the two-year pause on the implementation of the environmental regulation.
The Obama administration rule would limit methane leaks at oil and gas drilling sites and would set standards for equipment and employee certification within the oil and gas drilling sector.
The Obama administration finalized the rule in May of 2016 as part of its effort to curb the pollution of methane.
Methane is a greenhouse gas with 25 times the warming potential of carbon dioxide. Environmental groups have filed lawsuits against the Trump administration to block their ability to halt the methane rule.
The Trump administration has said it plans to review many Obama-era climate change policies.
