Trump Wanted To Fire Special Prosecutor But Staff Convinced Him No To
Trump’s Staff Is Desperately Trying To Prevent Him From Firing Special Prosecutor Mueller.
Donald Trump’s senior aides convinced him that taking the unprecedented move of firing the Special Prosecutor would make matters worse for his already troubled administration.
According to The New York Times, Donald Trump was angry about reports that Mueller was close to fired FBI Director James Comey and entertained the idea of firing the special counsel.
Sources told The New York Times that staff worked hard to convince Trump not to fire Mueller. Aides told Trump that they believe it would have been a disastrous decision for the administration.
“In recent days, the president has told his staff, his visitors, and his outside advisers that he was increasingly convinced Mr. Mueller, like Mr. Comey, his successor as director of the F.B.I., was part of a “witch hunt” by partisans who wanted to see him weakened or forced from office,” The New York Times reports.
The New York Times also confirms that Trump continues to be angry with Jeff Sessions for choosing to resign.
