Maine Senator Angus King told CNN on Wednesday morning that Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s testimony reveals that he has no interest in the scope of Russian interference during the 2016 election.
King told CNN that Sessions didn’t answer his questions during the Tuesday testimony about why Donald Trump decided to fire former FBI Director James Comey.
King also noted that Sessions’s other remarks on the Russia investigation revealed the attorney general’s disinterest.
“The other question he didn’t answer, I gotta say really, really, disturbed me, and that is, ‘Have you looked in to what the Russians did?'” King said Wednesday.
“Did you ask for any briefings? Do you understand the magnitude of what was done to us? And the answer was no.”
King reminded us that Sessions’s disinterest into the Russia investigation is part of a broader disinterest by the White House.
“Jim Comey essentially said the same thing last week about the president,” King continued. “He had nine interactions with the president, the president never asked ‘how did the Russians do it,’ ‘how do you know they did it,’ and … this is the most serious attack on our country since September 11.”
“An adversary is aiming an arrow at the heart of our democracy and these guys are just shrugging it off,” King accused.
“It really bothers me when the commander in chief takes that position.”
