Republican Health Bill Would Cost 1 Million Jobs

It’s not just health care that Americans will lose if the Republican health bill becomes law.

According to a new study, the GOP Obamacare repeal plan would also result in the loss of 1 million jobs.

A study by The Commonwealth Fund found that by 2026 the Republican bill would cost 1 million jobs and shrink state gross domestic product by $93 billion.

Additionally, business would be hit with a $148 billion hit.

“Coverage and spending-related policies are directly related to funding for health services (e.g., Medicaid, premium tax credits, high-risk pools). The reductions directly affect the health sector—hospitals, doctors’ offices, or pharmacies—but then flow out to other sectors,” the study noted.

“Thus, about two-fifths of jobs lost due to coverage policies are in the health sector while three-fifths are in other sectors. Tax changes affect consumption broadly, spreading effects over most job sectors,” the study found.

The Congressional Budget Office analysis found that the Republican bill would cause 23 million people their health insurance.

The Republican bill is very unpopular with the American people with one recent poll finding just 17 percent support from the American people.

Despite the clear public opposition to plan, Senate Republicans have been quietly pressing forward with their Obamacare repeal bill.

Democrats have complained that Republicans are refusing to release a draft of their proposed legislation for the American people to see.
