Democrats Considering Shutting Down The Senate To Block GOP Health Bill
Do it, Chuck!
Senate Democrats are considering a new strategy to stop Republicans from moving forward with their Obamacare repeal plan.
Democrats are considering using an aggressive parliamentary maneuver that would essentially shut down the Senate, blocking Republicans from moving forward with their health bill.
The plan, which was first reported by CNN, would prevent committees from meeting for more than two hours, among other roadblocks.
According to CNN, “If carried through, the hardball tactics would make it difficult for Republicans to schedule votes even on uncontroversial bills and nominees, further slowing down the already slow-moving body.”
The news comes as Republicans move to force their Obamacare repeal bill through the Senate without the traditional committee process including holding hearings or even making the draft language available for Senators or the public to read. The secretive process Republican leadership used has even come under fire by moderate Senate Republicans who have complained they have no idea what the bill includes.
Republicans are hoping to pass the bill before Congress leaves on recess for the July 4 holiday.
Reports have indicated that the Senate bill is at least 80% identical to the bill passed by the House GOP.
It was reported this week that during a closed-door meeting with Senate Republicans, Donald Trump called the bill “mean.”
