Independent Senator Angus King on Sunday said that Donald Trump doesn’t appear to be interested in Russian election meddling despite the ongoing investigation into alleged ties between his campaign and Moscow.
“I can’t imagine coming into office with this fact of this Russian engagement in our election, and not digging into it,” King told NBC’s Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press.”
“I believe it is one of the most serious attacks we’ve had on our country in recent years, and the president doesn’t seem interested in it,” he continued.
King went on to mention James Comey’s recent testimony before a Senate panel in which the fired FBI director said he met with Trump nine separate times.
“In none of those interactions did the president say, ‘What did the Russians do? How did they do it? How do you know they did it? And what can we do about it?’” King asked.
Senator King’s comments come after the Washington Post and other news outlets revealed that Donald Trump is under investigation for obstruction of justice.
“This is serious stuff, and all of this Trump, Comey and obstruction of justice is sort of obscuring the underlying of what I think is really the big story,” King said on Sunday.
