American Hospital Association Sounds The Alarm Over Republican Health Bill
The American Hospital Association issued a stark warning to Senate Republicans Monday that the proposed Medicaid cuts would be disastrous.
“Medicaid serves our most vulnerable populations, including Americans with chronic conditions such as cancer, the elderly and disabled individuals in need of long-term services and support, and already pays providers significantly less than the cost of providing care,” the AHA wrote in a letter Monday.
The version of the bill that House Republicans passed includes $834 billion in Medicaid cuts would have “serious negative consequences for communities across America,” AHA said.
And while the Senate version of the Obamacare repeal bill has been kept secret by Republicans, a new report by The Hill notes that Senate Republicans are considering Medicaid cuts that are even larger than the House bill included.
The American Hospital Association noted that Medicaid cuts would have disastrous consequences for the nation’s opioid epidemic.
“We already have seen clear evidence of how expanded coverage is helping to address these high-priority needs,” the AHA wrote.
“The opioid epidemic plaguing our country is a compelling reason why Medicaid expansion should not be curtailed, and Medicaid funding should not be slashed.”
The AHA is just one of dozens of organizations that have come out against the Republican health bill.
